about

"The stuck-in-the-mud blues. It's a universal thing, or at least it seems to be: you know it's done, she knows it's done, your friends know it's done, the fucking dog knows it's done, and no one is making a move. These self-inflicted agonies go on like awkward silences for what seems like ages, until somebody finally takes a good look in the mirror and starts the process. In the final mix, that move comes in the form of some sweet, farty keys, like a Stevie Wonder march, with the rest of the band picking up the message and running with it. It's a tune that mulls things over before it starts shouting, and when it does, it gets loose and funky and free. It's a hoot to play live – the release of that final section can get mighty crazy and extended." Derek

lyrics

Was I the person you expected to be with you today
Did you expect that I'd be standing here not going away
Well here I am. I'm standing up tall
Refusing to believe the writing on the wall
And every time I mention it, you tell me there's a lot I don't know
All that I know is I know I'm gonna watch you go

Gonna watch, gonna watch, gonna watch you go

If plans were money, we'd be rolling in a fortune in dimes
But bless my calendar, we're coming to the end of times
The clouds roll in. The sky's getting dark
Mamas take their babies home from the park
And maybe it's a hurricane, maybe it's just a dusting of snow
I don't know
Oh, all that I know is I know I'm gonna watch you go

Gonna watch, gonna watch, gonna watch you go
Gonna watch, gonna watch, gonna watch you go
Go, go, go, go

And if you're looking for answers
I got nothing to show
I try hard to make sense
Of my own present tense
But then a wind starts to blow
You would think that I'd learn
You would think that I'd grow

You keep the money. I'll be sure to write you once in a while
And forty years from now, I won't remember your smile
I don't care. Neither do you
Disaffected twentysomethings, what can we do?
And every time I mention it, you tell me that I'm lower than low
Well, maybe it's so
All that I know is I know I'm gonna watch you go

Gonna watch, gonna watch, gonna watch you go
Gonna watch, gonna watch, gonna watch you go

So go
Go if you're going, go
Go if you're going, go
Go if you're going, go
Go if you're going, go
Go if you're going, go
Go if you're going, go go go
Go if you're going, go
Go go go go
