Brighter Days (home demo)

about

"Mike and I recorded this in his old apartment in Lincoln Square as a demo for a musical TV pilot. We intended it to be sung by our protagonist to the girl he'd eventually fall in love with. He surprises her in a café (in Lincoln Square, of course), and leads her outside, where he gets the crowd singing along. I will never forget Mike camped out with his mic and laptop as I played a doghouse with Beatles Rock Band drumsticks to fake the sound of bucket drummers. I loved making this track." Alan

lyrics

She is just a girl in dire straits
She just sits there, wondering what awaits her
I am just a boy she doesn't know
If I had the power, I would show her
People go, but something always stays
I'd show her brighter days

She goes round with rainclouds in her hair
She can't see how life is fine and fair yet
I've got lots of words I shouldn't say
Candle close and ocean far away, yet
Maybe there's a glimmer in the haze
Maybe there's brighter days

Brighter days
Brighter days
Brighter days
Brighter days
etc.

You're beat up and battered
You want it the way it was
It wouldn't have mattered
'Cept now it does

There's no one to follow
And nothing to light your ways
When hoping is hollow,
Put it behind you
We're gonna find you

Brighter days
Brighter days
Brighter days
Brighter days

Oh
etc.
